Music, Traditions & the Coolest Tree Ever — Rezwan & Michael’s Fernstone Retreat Celebration

There are weddings — and then there are experiences. Rezwan and Michael’s big day was one of those totally one-of-a-kind weddings that you couldn’t replicate even if you tried. Tucked away in the Laurel Highlands at Fernstone Retreat, their celebration was personal, intentional, and overflowing with culture, laughter, and really great music.

The entire day flowed together like a storybook. Their ceremony took place inside the most charming barn — cozy, warm, and full of emotion as their closest friends and family watched them say “I do.” From there, everyone walked over to the pavilion, which has this unforgettable feature — a massive tree straight through the middle of the space, stretching overhead. It felt like nature itself was part of the celebration.

And then came one of the most unique moments of the night — the Persian knife dance. Rezwan’s Matron of Honor stole the cake-cutting knife and danced her way around the room while the couple tried to bribe it back. Everyone in the room was cheering, laughing, clapping — it was such a fun way to kick off the party and a perfect blend of tradition and joy.

When it came to music, Rezwan and Michael were so intentional. They wanted the playlist to make every guest feel included, no matter where they were from or how old they were. That meant weaving together their favorite dance songs with traditional Persian and Kurdish music. And let me tell you — the second those cultural tracks came on, the dance floor exploded. Guests joined hands, formed circles, clapped, and danced with huge smiles — it didn’t matter if they’d heard the music before or not. It was pure happiness.

From start to finish, their wedding felt like them — thoughtful, joyful, a little unexpected in the best ways, and filled with family and tradition. I’m really grateful I got to be part of it and help bring their soundtrack to life. Days like this are exactly why I love being a wedding DJ.
