Phipps Conservatory

Few venues offer the natural character and variety of spaces found at Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens. Having worked here more than a dozen times, in both the outdoor tent and the Special Events Hall, I have seen how differently each celebration can feel depending on the setting. Every space brings its own atmosphere while still carrying the signature elegance Phipps is known for.
Ceremonies in the outdoor garden or within the Tropical Forest Conservatory create an immersive experience for guests. Surrounded by greenery, glass, and curated landscapes, the environment becomes part of the celebration itself. Providing clear, well-balanced sound in these spaces requires thoughtful placement so that vows and music complement the setting rather than compete with it.
The Special Events Hall offers a refined indoor option, while the tent allows for a more open-air feel. Both transition beautifully into dinner and dancing, and each presents its own considerations for layout and flow. The combination of natural beauty and structured event design makes weddings here feel distinctive and memorable without needing excessive production.
Below are real weddings at Phipps Conservatory, offering a closer look at how couples have used these unique spaces throughout their day.

Katelyn & Jack Let Their Guests Shape the Party at Children’s Museum of Pittsburgh

Katelyn and Jack knew their friends and family would have plenty of great ideas for the music, so they invited them to be part of it. Guests shared requests before the wedding, including the “Star Wars” theme for one of Katelyn’s young cousins, and they kept them coming once the reception began. There were suggestions from every generation, and people had a blast trying to think of the next song that would keep everyone moving. I loved seeing how much involvement the guests felt in the celebration.

The reception was held in the Big Red Room at the Children’s Museum of Pittsburgh. During the week, it serves as a cafeteria for hundreds of children visiting the museum, but on Saturday evening, it felt like a completely different room. The decor and uplighting added warmth and color throughout the space, with plenty of room for dinner, visiting, and dancing. It was fun watching guests walk in and take in how everything had come together.

Once everyone settled into the room, the guest-focused nature of the wedding became even more obvious. People were not waiting until dancing began to get involved. They stopped by throughout dinner with ideas and reacted when something they had requested started playing. That participation made the reception feel personal because the soundtrack reflected not only Katelyn and Jack, but also the people they were most excited to celebrate with.

When dancing opened, the music moved through decades of disco, 80s pop, funk, classic rock, throwback hip-hop, pop anthems, and energetic dance music. Guests of every age found something that pulled them onto the floor. The variety never felt random because each request revealed a little more about the crowd, and their reactions helped guide where the party went next.

There is something special about a couple trusting their guests enough to help shape the music for such an important night. Katelyn and Jack gave everyone a chance to feel like they had played a small part in making the wedding unforgettable, and their friends and family returned that enthusiasm. I left reminded that the best reception memories are often the ones everyone creates together.

Faith, Family, and a Full Dance Floor for Kaylee & Jason at Glen Eden Barn

Kaylee and Jason’s wedding felt like the beginning of something much bigger than a single day. Their faith was present throughout the celebration, but so was the joy of seeing two families come together to support them as they started this next chapter. There was a real warmth throughout the day, the kind you notice in the hugs, the conversations, and the way people looked at the newlyweds. I loved watching everyone share in a day that clearly meant so much to both families.

The celebration took place at Glen Eden Barn in Evans City, Pennsylvania. The wooden barn has high ceilings and plenty of open space, which gave guests room to visit comfortably before filling the floor later in the reception. Out back, the covered porch created a sheltered outdoor ceremony area that still felt connected to the surrounding property. On a warm Western PA summer evening, the entire setup felt relaxed and welcoming.

Their ceremony included communion, prayers, and a worship song, creating several quiet and meaningful moments before the celebration moved inside. Guests were later treated to an incredible cookie table displayed on a rustic cart and loaded with more sweets than anyone could possibly sample in one trip. The parent dances brought two completely different kinds of emotion to the floor. Kaylee and her father shared a sweet dance to “My Wish,” while Jason and his mother surprised everyone with a choreographed routine to Justin Timberlake’s “Can’t Stop the Feeling.” The smiles and cheers around the room said everything.

The music followed the spirit of the day, beginning with traditional and contemporary instrumental selections for the ceremony before moving into acoustic pop, folk, and singer-songwriter favorites during cocktails. Dinner brought jazz standards, soul classics, and relaxed ballads while guests ate and caught up. Once dancing began, the reception shifted into a lively mix of Motown, disco, 80s pop, and current dance remixes. Guests formed dance circles, sang together, and jumped in whenever something connected with their generation. It was fun without ever feeling forced, and the energy carried right through to the bubble send-off outside.

Kaylee and Jason’s wedding marked such an exciting turning point in their lives. After a Western PA mini-moon, they will soon be moving to India and beginning an adventure that will take them far beyond Pittsburgh. I was genuinely happy to be part of the day that sent them into that next chapter surrounded by faith, family, and so much love.

Mackenzie & Aaron Brought Generations Together at Their Wedding in Oakmont

There was something really special about Mackenzie and Aaron’s wedding from the beginning to the end. Family was at the heart of every part of the day. It wasn’t just about celebrating the two of them. It was about honoring the generations that came before them while creating new memories that everyone would talk about for years to come. Everyone gathered on the Fourth of July in the backyard of their family homes in Oakmont, where all those stories came together.

Mackenzie’s family owns neighboring properties along the river, which allowed the celebration to unfold across two separate tents. Dinner took place in one tent while the other was reserved entirely for dancing later in the evening. The river created an amazing backdrop throughout the reception, and moving from one space to another made the entire night feel relaxed and natural, almost like guests were simply spending the evening together at a family gathering that happened to include an amazing celebration.

The most meaningful detail of the day reached back more than seven decades. Mackenzie’s grandparents had celebrated their own wedding at this very same location 71 years earlier, also on the Fourth of July. Knowing that history added an extra layer of emotion to the entire celebration. You could see how much it meant to everyone in attendance that another chapter in the family’s story was being written in exactly the same place. It was one of those moments that remind me why I love being a wedding DJ. Every wedding is unique, but sometimes you’re lucky enough to witness traditions continuing across generations.

The music followed that same idea of bringing everyone together. Cocktail hour welcomed guests with acoustic favorites, country ballads, and relaxed coffeehouse music before dinner shifted into timeless jazz standards, soulful classics, and old favorites that fit the evening perfectly. Once the dance floor opened, the energy changed completely. We had a long stretch of dancing, which gave me plenty of time to mix together disco, funk, classic rock, country, and modern dance music so every generation had their moment. Guests of all ages packed the dance floor, taking only a short break when Mackenzie’s cousins surprised everyone with a fireworks display. Soon, everyone was back inside singing, dancing, and celebrating. By the end of the night, the dance floor was completely full as everyone gathered around Mackenzie and Aaron for two unforgettable finales, “Don’t Stop Believin'” followed by “Party in the U.S.A.”

Mackenzie and Aaron celebrated their future while never losing sight of the family’s history, and that’s a combination you don’t get to experience very often. I’m so excited for Mackenzie and Aaron as they begin married life together, and I hope their honeymoon in St. Lucia is every bit as unforgettable as the celebration they shared with the people who mean the most to them.

Madison & Josh Created a Wedding Everyone Will Remember at Phipps Conservatory

One of the things I appreciated most about Madison and Josh’s wedding was how every decision centered around their guests. They wanted everyone to feel included, comfortable, and part of the celebration from the moment they arrived until the final song of the night. It created such a welcoming atmosphere. You could feel how excited their family and friends were to celebrate with them, and that excitement only grew as the reception unfolded.

Guests spent cocktail hour exploring the Tropical Rain Forest at Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens, which always feels like a special treat compared to a traditional ballroom cocktail hour. When everyone made their way into the Special Events Room, the space had a completely different feel. Elegant draping stretched across the ceiling, the lighting gave the room a warm glow, and it was easy to see why this setting fit Madison and Josh’s vision so well.

There were so many thoughtful touches throughout the reception. Instead of a traditional plated meal, guests wandered between three creative dinner stations with pun-filled names like “Wok This Way” and “Meat Me At The Alter,” which had everyone smiling before they even picked up a plate. One of my favorite ideas from the evening happened during dinner. Madison and Josh had collected the first dance songs from married couples in their families ahead of time, and I played those throughout the meal. It was amazing watching couples hear their own wedding song unexpectedly, look at each other, and sneak onto the dance floor for a quiet dance together while everyone else enjoyed dinner.

The music throughout the reception reflected exactly what Madison and Josh had hoped for. Cocktails began with contemporary piano covers before dinner, blended country favorites, jazz standards, classic R&B, and singer-songwriter selections that kept the room relaxed while people visited. Once dancing began, everything opened up. Disco classics, rock favorites, pop hits, and hip-hop kept guests of every age on the dance floor together. Later in the evening, the foam glow sticks came out, the lights went down, and the entire room exploded with energy. By the last few songs, nearly every guest was gathered on the dance floor singing, cheering, and celebrating together before everyone headed off to continue the party at the after-party.

I left this wedding thinking about how generous Madison and Josh were with their celebration. Every part of the day was designed to bring people together, whether it was sharing a favorite meal, reliving family wedding memories, or dancing with friends until the very end. It was a joy to be part of their wedding, and I hope their European cruise is every bit as memorable as the incredible celebration they created for everyone back home.

Maddie and Nick’s Unforgettable Fall Wedding at Phipps Conservatory

Maddie and Nick’s wedding at Phipps Conservatory was a day to remember. Set against the stunning backdrop of Pittsburgh’s iconic botanical gardens, their fall wedding was nothing short of magical. The outdoor ceremony and cocktail hour in the garden were absolutely picturesque, with the warm, vibrant fall colors making everything feel even more intimate and special. Guests enjoyed sipping cocktails while soaking in the beauty of the gardens before heading into the elegant reception tent for dinner and dancing.

Music played a huge role throughout the day, and you could tell Maddie and Nick put a lot of thought into making it a key part of their celebration. From the ceremony to the reception, every song was carefully chosen to reflect their personalities. The cocktail hour was filled with laid-back, jazzy tunes that set the perfect mood for mingling, while dinner had a mix of modern and classic instrumentals, creating a relaxed yet classy atmosphere. Once dinner was over, the party turned up a notch. Guests hit the dance floor with a wide range of fun, high-energy music, from throwback hits to today’s bangers. The dance floor stayed packed, with everyone—from family to friends—getting in on the action.

What made Maddie and Nick’s wedding stand out was not just their obvious passion for music, but how they curated every moment to feel like them. They didn’t just stick to tradition—they made sure every part of their day was a reflection of who they are as a couple. By the end of the night, no one wanted to leave! It was one of those weddings where the energy just kept building, and people were dancing like crazy well into the final songs.

For Maddie and Nick, it wasn’t just about checking off the typical wedding boxes—it was about creating a day that was uniquely theirs. And they absolutely nailed it. From the beautiful fall setting at Phipps to the wild dance floor that had everyone on their feet, it was a celebration that their guests won’t soon forget. And as they headed off to start their honeymoon, you could tell Maddie and Nick’s wedding day was everything they dreamed of and more.

Kaitlyn and Andrew (Phipps Conservatory Wedding)

I’ll admit, I get excited when couples find incredibly special ideas to include as part of their wedding day.  I also love the people who choose to make the day their own instead of sticking to traditions that don’t match their style.  Kaitlyn and Andrew included lots of custom details and their entire celebration was the perfect match for them.  Their ceremony and reception was held on a perfect summer day at the always beautiful Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Garden.

Once guests entered the Special Events Room, they each received a special surprise at their table of a lucky bamboo tree, all of which was loving made by Andrew.  What a great and unique favor for everyone to take home!

Kaitlyn and Andrew had also chosen some fantastic music for dinner and dancing.  Everyone sang and danced to some wonderful music from oldies to today’s hits.

Kaitlyn and Andrew put a lot of time and energy on the details of their big day, and it all paid off.  They made perfect choices that made everything feel comfortable for not only them, but everyone involved.  At the end of the night they were surrounded by all of their favorite people who were clearly thrilled to help them celebrate their new lives together.

Brett Alaina and John (Phipps Conservatory Wedding DJ)

I tell each couple that I work with that planning your wedding reception should be fun.  There’s plenty of work to do when choosing details for your big day, but when it comes time to think about the music and good times you’ll have at the reception, you should try to enjoy the process.  Brett Alaina and John were great to work with when we put together their wedding ceremony and reception held at Phipps Conservatory in Pittsburgh, PA.

This was my first time getting to provide uplighting (both candlelight and purple) at the Phipps Conservatory ballroom!  I also helped create a monogram for the newlyweds, too!

Brett Alaina and John chose wonderful, unique and stylish music to use throughout their celebration.  This great mix of music matched up perfectly with their friends and family, so when it was time to dance, no one hesitated to get on the dance floor to party!  I love getting the chance to work with people who enjoy music so much, and find great ways to use their favorite songs to make their day memorable.  The happy couple is now off for a romantic and well-deserved honeymoon in the Maldives.

There’s no better way to kick off the 2015 wedding season then with a fantastic spring wedding.  Ashley and Adam held their ceremony and reception at the beautiful Phipps Conservatory in Pittsburgh, PA.  They took such care to plan a day which included all their favorite people, details and music.

Their nuptials and cocktails were held in the Tropical Forest Congo area, and I loved how their place cards and other details coordinated perfectly with the theme at Phipps.

Lauren and Chris (Phipps Conservatory)

A key to a great reception is to allow some variety into your music selections.  Lauren and Chris did an amazing job coming up with a mix of music that appealed to all of their friends and family for their nuptials and celebration at Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens in Pittsburgh.

Phipps Conservatory Wedding (27 of 27)

Phipps was the perfect location for the newlyweds’ big day.  Their ceremony and cocktails were held in the outdoor gardens with a live string quartet.  Throughout the rest of the evening, guests were treated to music from every decade from the 40’s til Today.  Since it was a wonderful summer day, guests were able to enjoy the space outside the Special Events Suite which featured a cigar bar!

Lauren and Chris did an amazing job mixing their tastes of 80’s and current music along with great classic songs they knew their wedding guests would enjoy.  Throughout the reception I had people stopping by to tell me how much they were enjoying the music selections.  At the end of the night, everyone cheered for these fun and sweet newlyweds and even insisted on an extra song to keep the party going just a little longer.
