Energy Innovation Center

Housed in a beautifully restored historic building, the Energy Innovation Center offers a space that feels industrial, open, and full of character. The exposed brick, tall windows, and original architectural details give weddings here a distinct urban atmosphere without feeling unfinished.
I’ve provided ceremony services here as well, and the building adapts well depending on the size and layout of the celebration. For smaller weddings, dinner and dancing can both take place comfortably inside the ballroom. In other cases, couples choose to host dinner in the long hallway space, using its dramatic length and texture to create a unique dining experience before moving into the ballroom for dancing. That flexibility gives the evening a natural progression and keeps energy building throughout the night.
Uplighting works especially well against the brick and architectural features, adding depth and warmth once the reception transitions from dinner to dancing. With thoughtful sound placement across the different spaces, each portion of the celebration feels connected and balanced.

Great Music and Great People: Laura & Marco’s Reception at the Energy Innovation Center

Laura and Marco’s reception was one of those nights that remind you how personal a wedding can be when you really lean into what matters most to you. Instead of worrying about traditions or expectations, they built a celebration around time with their friends and family, great music, and just enjoying the night together. From the moment guests arrived, you could feel that relaxed, happy energy in the room, and it carried all the way through the last song and into the after-party that followed.

Their celebration took place at the Energy Innovation Center in downtown Pittsburgh, a venue that always feels unique and a little unexpected in the best way. Laura and Marco transformed the space with custom details everywhere, all tied together with fun graphic design elements that made the whole reception feel cohesive and creative. I provided uplighting for the evening, and the room looked incredible (especially when they turned off all the lights!). They also skipped a few “traditional moments”, which gave them more time to visit with guests and really be present in the celebration, something a lot of couples are realizing is worth prioritizing.

Some of the most memorable moments of the night were the ones that felt genuine and joyful. Their first dance was incredibly sweet—you could feel their connection across the entire room. The parent dances were just as meaningful, and Laura and her dad even surprised everyone by getting a little wild toward the end, which brought a lot of laughter and applause. Later in the evening, guests were treated to something I’ve never seen before: fresh cannoli being hand-pumped right on the dance floor so people could grab a dessert without ever leaving the party. It was a huge hit and added to the fun, relaxed atmosphere they created.

Music played a big part in making the night feel exactly the way Laura and Marco envisioned. During cocktails and dinner, the playlist leaned into indie, alternative, classic rock, soul, and singer-songwriter styles that felt warm and inviting while guests mingled. Once the dancing started, everything opened up with tons of dance music, throwbacks, pop, hip-hop, and crowd-favorite sing-alongs kept the floor packed all night. Laura and Marco’s song requests were spot-on for their friends and family, and the energy never really dipped. Toward the end of the night, guests gathered around, cheering as the newlyweds were lifted into the air in celebration, one of those spontaneous moments everyone remembers long after the music stops.

Nights like this are a big part of why I love being a DJ. Watching a couple design a reception that truly reflects who they are (and then seeing their friends and family completely embrace it) is always something special. Laura and Marco created a night that felt joyful, relaxed, and completely their own, and it was an absolute blast to be part of it. And the fact that everyone headed off to an after-party because they weren’t ready for the night to end pretty much says it all.

Katherine and Ammar (Energy Innovation Center Wedding)

I recently had the immense pleasure of DJing the wedding of Katherine and Ammar, a beautiful couple whose love shone brightly in the heart of downtown Pittsburgh, PA. The Energy Innovation Center, with its unique views of the city, served as the perfect backdrop for their special day.

One of the most striking aspects of this wedding was the diverse and inclusive atmosphere. Ammar and many of the guests brought a rich Pakistani cultural influence, infusing the celebration with a playlist that resonated with everyone present. The music became a vibrant fusion of styles, creating an atmosphere that truly reflected the couple’s unique love story.

What set Katherine and Ammar’s wedding apart was their decision to forgo many of the ‘standard’ wedding dances and events. Instead, they chose to spend their day in the company of their cherished guests, creating a warm and inviting ambiance. The celebration was a testament to their commitment to authenticity and making every moment count.

The Energy Innovation Center provided a breathtaking setting for both the ceremony and the reception. The couple exchanged vows against the backdrop of the city’s skyline, creating a picturesque moment that will be etched in their memories forever. The unique venue allowed guests to enjoy the beauty of Pittsburgh from a perspective that added to the overall magic of the day.

As the year comes to a close, this wedding marked my final performance in 2023. It’s been a year filled with incredible celebrations, and Katherine and Ammar’s wedding was the perfect way to cap it off. Looking ahead to 2024, I am excited about the prospect of DJing more weddings and being a part of the joyous moments that make each event truly special.

Cheers to love, party vibes, and the awesome beats that await at weddings in the year ahead!
