Some nights, you can tell from the first five minutes that the whole night is going to be fun. That was Jessica and Travis’s wedding. Their closest people packed into the Imperial Room at SNPJ Lodge 106 on a genuinely gorgeous spring evening, and from the moment things got moving, the energy was easy and warm. This wasn’t a buttoned-up formal affair. Jessica and Travis wanted something laid back and fun, with just enough occasion in the air to feel special, and that’s exactly what they got!

The room had a really personal feel to it, with a custom archway behind the sweetheart table and an amazing cooking table with over 100 dozen cookies. Throughout the night, the space had that quality where it felt like people actually wanted to be there together, not just going through the motions of a wedding reception. The beautiful weather helped, too. Guests drifted outside between dances to enjoy the evening air, then came back in ready to go again.

The night had some great individual moments worth mentioning. The grand entrance came in swinging with “Come And Get Your Love” by Redbone, which set the tone perfectly for a couple who wasn’t taking themselves too seriously. Their first dance was to “Grow Old With You” by Adam Sandler which was sweet and completely them. Jessica’s mom danced with her to “Build Me Up Buttercup” by The Foundations, full of joy, and Travis shared his mother/son dance to “I Don’t Wanna Blink” by Compass Road. The moment I keep coming back to was when everyone formed a tunnel, light sticks in the air, waving the newlyweds through. It was spontaneous and loud, and everyone was in on it.

The musical arc of the night had a nice, personal shape. Cocktail hour leaned toward Travis’s taste, rolling through 70s and classic rock with some singer-songwriter mixed in, the kind of stuff that gets played at a good party. Dinner shifted toward Jessica’s world, Taylor Swift and modern pop with enough familiarity to keep the conversation flowing. Then dancing opened up into something for everyone: disco, Motown, 80s pop, 2010s hits, classic hip-hop, and the kind of singalong anthems that get people pointing at each other across the dance floor. The requests kept coming all night, good ones, and the room stayed full. When “Party In The USA” closed out the last set and “Closing Time” brought it home for real, people weren’t ready to leave. They stuck around and helped clean up, which, honestly, I don’t see every week.

I had such a good time with Jessica and Travis’s friends and family. There’s a warmth to a crowd that genuinely likes each other, and this evening had it in abundance. Congratulations to the happy couple!
