An Epic Dance Party for Kathleen & Alex at the Pittsburgh Botanic Garden

Some weddings feel like they hit every note — and Kathleen and Alex’s day at the Pittsburgh Botanic Garden was exactly that. Right in the heart of fall in western PA, the weather was perfect, the trees were showing off their colors, and everyone knew it was going to be a really special day. Guests arrived to a beautifully curated pre-ceremony music, and I even had people mentioning how great the vibe felt before the wedding even started — always a good sign.

The ceremony took place outdoors, surrounded by golden leaves, warm sunshine, and that quiet sense of calm nature gives you right before something big happens. Kathleen and Alex picked songs that fit the moment perfectly.

As guests moved into the tent for dinner — long tables, incredible fall décor, string lights overhead — it felt like a cozy garden party.

Once it was time for dancing in the barn-style reception hall, things got really fun. Kathleen and Alex had given me an awesome variety of music to work with — soul and Motown favorites, some indie tracks, throwback pop, hip hop, early 2000s hits, even a little country and rock. The best part? Their guests were ready for all of it. The dance floor filled quickly and just kept building. With every song, people sang louder, danced harder, and somehow still saved energy for the next track. It wasn’t just a rush to the dance floor for the big songs — people stayed there, song after song, just having the time of their lives.

This was one of those crowds that cheered at the beginning of songs and refused to let the night slow down. I mixed through as many of Kathleen and Alex’s requests as possible while keeping the energy high — and it worked. The playlist bounced from disco and oldies to 80s pop, 90s throwbacks, 2000s hits, current dance tracks and more — and every genre had its moment. It’s honestly one of my favorite parts of DJing — watching a dance floor full of people just get more excited with every track.

When we got to the end of the night, nobody wanted it to be the end. The last songs were filled with everyone huddled together, singing at the top of their lungs, smiling, laughing — just one of those perfect wedding moments you never forget. And the best part? The celebration didn’t even stop there — everyone headed to the after party to keep the night going with the newlyweds.

Kathleen and Alex planned a day that was meaningful, laid-back, emotional, and an absolute blast. I’m so grateful I got to be a part of it — and to help create the soundtrack to a night no one wanted to end.
