Carnegie Museum of Natural History

I’ve had the opportunity to DJ over 40 weddings at Carnegie Museum of Natural History, most of them in the stunning Music Hall Foyer. With its towering marble columns and intricate metalwork overhead, it remains one of the most breathtaking reception spaces in Pittsburgh.
Cocktail hour is typically held on the balcony above the marble room, and many couples begin their reception with their first dance while guests look on from above. I provide speakers on the balcony from cocktail hour through the first dance so everyone feels fully part of the moment.
Because it is such a large space, sound placement and pacing matter. After working here so many times alongside a meticulous and professional staff, I am able to focus completely on creating the right atmosphere, whether that means an elegant evening or a full dance floor with plenty of room to celebrate.
Below you will find real weddings I have DJ’d at Carnegie Museum of Natural History, including playlists and highlights from each celebration.

Sara and Spencer (Carnegie Museum Wedding Reception)

There are so many choices to make when planning a wedding.  It can be a challenge to decide on all the major options along with all the smaller decisions that need made along the way.  Sara and Spencer did a fabulous job focusing their attention on the details that mattered most to them, and put trust in their venue and vendors to help make sure their day would be a tremendous success.

The reception was held at the stunningly beautiful Carnegie Museum Music Hall Foyer.  Guests were allowed to explore the museum after the ceremony before heading to the balcony for cocktails and hors d’oeuvres.

Sara and Spencer chose all the special songs for their first dance, parent dances and exit.  They left the rest of the music open for what their guests would enjoy for the celebration.  This gave everyone a chance to join in the fun and dance to great music from both yesterday and today!

The other vendors I talked to said how wonderful it was to work with Sara and Spencer.  Their ability to make such excellent decisions for their wedding day, resulted in a celebration that no one will soon forget.  The newlyweds made another perfect choice to head off for their honeymoon in Mexico!

Maddie and Randy (Carnegie Museum)

One of the most fun things about being a wedding DJ is the wonderfully diverse music I get to play each weekend.  Maddie and Randy’s wedding was extra special since their playlist included music from pretty much every genre imaginable.  Their epic celebration was held at the gorgeous Carnegie Museum Music Hall Foyer.

The museum is always a stunning venue and looked even more amazing with the beautiful centerpieces and lighting!

The music throughout the night included everything from rock, country, standards and top 40 hits from the 60’s to today.  Maddie and her father had even put together a custom medley for their special dance that blew everyone away.  From the moment the dance floor opened, everyone jumped up to join in the party.

Maddie and Randy gave me the freedom to play anything and everything that would ensure their guests had a great time.  Their friends and family clearly were thrilled to be part of the newlyweds’ special day.  The happy couple is soon headed off to enjoy their honeymoon, and hopefully some great music, in the Riviera Maya.

Stephanie and Brendan (Carnegie Museum Wedding Reception)

A common question people ask me is “how to get the party started after everyone has enjoyed a delicious meal?”.  The answer can vary depending on the guests, but every once in a while, I get to work with a couple who has found a fun and unique way to instantly get everyone on the dance floor.  Stephanie and Brendan figured that out, as well as many other wonderful details for their beautiful and elegant wedding reception at the Music Hall Foyer in the Carnegie Museum of Pittsburgh.

I’ve been very blessed to play at the museum quiet a few times, and I’m always taken back by the incredible beauty of the music hall.

After Stephanie and Brendan’s friends and family enjoyed cocktails and dinner, it was time for some very special dances with the parents.  Not only were both dances incredibly sweet, Stephanie and her father’s dance was a medley of upbeat songs, ending on “We Are Family”.  They pulled everyone onto the dance floor and the celebration was instantly a success!

The music choices the newlyweds made were a perfect match for the friends and family.  Everything from classics to today’s biggest hits kept the party going.  In the end, Stephanie and Brendan were surrounded by their favorite people as they all sang and cheered.  The happy couple is headed off to Hawaii for a fun-filled and relaxing honeymoon.

Janel and Nick (Carnegie Museum Wedding Reception)

One of the best parts of getting to DJ weddings is that I get to play such a great variety of music in a single evening, and I love working with couples who are as passionate about the music for their big day as I am.   Janel and Nick worked hard to create a soundtrack for their celebration that was the perfect match for all their sweet and fun guests.  Their reception was held at the amazingly beautiful Carnegie Museum Music Hall Foyer.

If you regularly follow my blogs, you know how much I adore working at the Carnegie Museum.  The staff is fantastic, and it’s just the most stunning venue around.  The museum also provides lots of space for visiting, dining and dancing!

Janel and Nick chose a wonderful mix of songs to play through the entire celebration.  Everything from oldies, R&B to today’s music provided the right astmophere for their friends and family to join in the fun until the very last song.  The happy couple is now off to enjoy a well-deserved honeymoon in the Bahamas!

Christina and Christopher (Carnegie Museum Wedding Reception)

I feel blessed to get to work with some of the nicest couples in Pittsburgh.  It’s so fun to work with those who are truly excited to celebrate their love together surrounded by all their favorite people.  Christina and Chris worked hard putting together an epic celebration that included wonderful music, amazing treats and some really unforgettable moments.  Their wedding reception was held on St. Patrick’s Day at the gorgeous Carnegie Museum Hall of Sculpture.

What can I say about this venue?  It’s just stunning, elegant and was the perfect choice for Christina and Chris’s celebration.  Tori and the rest of the staff did their usual amazing job at making everything perfect.

The newlyweds chose wonderful music to include throughout the evening.  Their selections were the perfect match for their guests, as everyone was quick to join in the dance party!

Not only was it a thrill to get to know Christina and Chris, their friends and family were also wonderful, sweet and really knew how to celebrate!  Among all these great guests was an amazing wedding couple I had worked with back in 2010!  On top of all this, the newlyweds also hired some of the best vendors in the world (WeddingsbyAlisa & SyncopatedPictures).  All of these perfectly planned elements came together into an amazing day that I’m sure no one will soon forget.  The happy couple sets off soon for their well-deserved Hawaiian honeymoon.

Christy and Ryan (Carnegie Museum Wedding Reception)

Choosing the right time of year to get married can be just as important as finding the right venue and wedding vendors.  Pittsburgh offers such distinct seasons which can offer wonderful options for colors and themes.  A winter wedding was the perfect fit for Christy and Ryan’s elegant and fun reception, held at the Carnegie Museum Music Hall Foyer in Oakland.

I’ve always been in awe of the beauty of the Music Hall Foyer, but it looked even more stunning with the perfect winter colors.  There were little hints of silver snowflakes throughout the museum, including on the amazing candy buffet!

I can’t think of a more perfect way for me to the end the 2017 wedding season than getting to DJ for Christy and Ryan.  They were so fun to work with, and really wanted to be sure their guests had a great time.  This allowed me to play the music everyone wanted to hear, from oldies to today’s newest hits.  All their friends and family joined in the celebration along with the newlyweds.  After their perfect winter celebration, Christy and Ryan are now prepared to exchange Pittsburgh’s current weather for warmer climates on their honeymoon in Bora Bora.

Alyssa and Kyle (Carnegie Museum Wedding & Reception)

Anyone who knows me is aware of my love of all things Disney, so you can imagine my excitement when I heard that Alyssa and Kyle’s wedding day was going to be themed after the movie “UP!”.  They did a fabulous job incorporating adorable pieces and music throughout the Carnegie Museum in Oakland, where both their ceremony and reception were held.

Guests gathered to witness their nuptials in the gorgeous Hall of Sculptures before making their way to the Music Hall Foyer.  At the reception was were Alyssa and Kyle’s “UP!” wedding really got to be shine.

Clearly, all of these fun details, would stir up everyone to want to dance, party and celebrate!

Alyssa and Kyle’s personalities came through at every part of their day.  From the music they chose to the constant laughter, and finally to the wonderful party of singing and dancing that could have lasted all night long, the newlyweds held a wedding that was a reflection of themselves and their love for each other.  There could not have been a more suitable way for the couple to begin the next chapter in their Adventure Book.

Meghan and Norbert (Carnegie Museum Wedding Reception)

I love to get to hear stories from couples about their relationship and how led up to their wedding day.  It’s so fun and helps me to get to know the bride and groom in order to prepare for their special day.  Meghan and Norbert had some amazing tales about their first date (a scavenger hunt around Pittsburgh) and their engagement (a helicopter ride over the city), that definitely let me know how unique and fun their celebration would be at the amazing Carnegie Museum in Oakland.

I can never say enough about how much I love to come to the Carnegie Museum.  Not only is it stunning, but everything about it is completely top notch.  Meghan and Norbert’s ceremony was held in the gorgeous Hall of Sculpture, and the reception was held in the beautiful and ornate Music Hall Foyer.

Meghan and Norbert’s amazing history let me know that they weren’t afraid to plan and work to create magical moments.  I had the best time working with them both since they wanted to create a celebration like no other.  Their hard work paid off big since all their guests had the time of their lives dancing, singing and just getting crazy with the newlyweds.  I’m looking forward to keeping in touch with these two since I’m sure they’re going to have more incredible stories to tell.

Lori and Drew (Carnegie Museum Wedding Reception)

The most unique thing about your wedding day will not be the venue, the wedding dress, or even the variety of treats displayed on the cookie table.  What makes every reception different is the guests who come to celebrate with the newlyweds.  Lori and Drew understood this from the beginning and made a lot of special plans to be sure their friends and family were treated to an evening like no other.  They focused their evening on spending time with each and every person who had played an important part in their lives.

Their ceremony and reception were held at the breathtaking Carnegie Museum Hall of Sculpture and Music Hall Foyer.  The decor was stunning, as was the celebration which featured a photo booth, hora and an epic display of cookies.

Lori and Drew ended their evening with a “90-2000’s Power Hour” of some of their favorite songs from high school and college.  This was such a fun way to bring back memories they had with some of the most important people in their lives.  After the last song and 2 additional songs, it was clear no one wanted to leave.  Everyone couldn’t get enough of this amazing evening with such a wonderful couple.  The newlyweds will be heading off to Japan for their honeymoon later this year.

Elizabeth and Kevin (Carnegie Museum)

Every once in while I get the rare opportunity to DJ a reception where it’s clear how much the guests enjoy a very wide variety of music.  At Elizabeth and Kevin’s celebration at the Carnegie Museum in Oakland, their guests went wild over music from the 50’s to today.  Young and old crowded the dance floor and went wild all night long.

The happy couple took the time to come up with a fantastic list of music suggestions for me to include throughout the evening, but also allowed me the flexibility to include requests from their friends and family.  This lead to a party that could not have been more fun for everyone.  The night ended with a packed dance floor and guests that were ready to head off for more celebrating at the after party.

Christina and Tom (Carnegie Museum)

While many aspects of wedding planning can seem like a chore, I feel that choosing music for your reception should be nothing but fun.  I encourage couples to grab their iPhones, some wine, and make an evening of it!  While I don’t know if wine was involved, Christina and Tom made a wonderful and diverse playlist for their fantastic celebration held at the Carnegie Museum in Oakland.

The museum always looks amazing, and the decor chosen by Christina and Tom added the perfect touch of elegance and style.  I loved their Penn State themed cake topper!

The newlyweds requested a great mix of music that included everything from country, 80’s, rock, top 40 and hip-hop.  Throughout the evening, their guests were able to enjoy music that appeals to every generation.  This allowed everyone an opportunity to hit the dance floor during their favorite songs.  Christina and Tom are currently celebrating their new life together on their honeymoon in St. Barts.

Kaitlyn and Joseph (Carnegie Museum)

When it comes to wedding planning, I love to work with couples that want to dig into the details of the reception.  I’m a huge fan of making lists and triple checking everything to make sure things go well during this once-in-a-lifetime event.  Kaitlyn, Joe and I could not have been a more perfect match.  We had a great time discussing and putting together the music and events for their celebration at the Carnegie Museum in Oakland.

Kaitlyn and Joe provided excellent direction when it came to music, but also gave me the flexibility to be sure their guests heard a wide variety of fun songs.  Everyone had a chance to join in the fun and sing and dance to hits from yesterday and today.  The happy couple will continue to reap the benefits of their amazing planning talents as they enjoy a well-deserved honeymoon in Maui.
