There’s a moment at every great wedding where you look around and think, Yep. This is exactly where I want to be right now. Alexandria and Eric’s big day at The Pittsburgh Golf Club had that moment… over and over again. Honestly, from the minute I walked in and saw the cake, the florals, the setup — I knew it was going to be one of those nights. You know the kind. The ones where you’re still thinking about the dance floor three days later.

This was a special one for me — not just because I finally got back to DJing at this gorgeous venue after a long time away, but because I actually DJ’d Alex’s sister’s wedding nearly ten years ago (thanks Madison and Jay!). I still remember how much fun their family was then… and it turns out, nothing’s changed. They still know how to throw down — big time.

From the moment guests arrived, the vibe was easy and upbeat. The playlist for cocktail hour was packed with deep-cut ’90s and early 2000s alt-pop — think Gin Blossoms, Hootie, Matchbox Twenty, Third Eye Blind. It was nostalgic without being cheesy, and it really set the tone for the night: thoughtful, fun, a little throwback-y in the best way.

The first dance was to Waste by Phish — not a track I get to play at weddings very often, and it was perfect. Totally heartfelt and personal, just like everything else about their day. And from there, the playlist just kept delivering: a mix of pop, indie, soul, 2000s rock, country, and a few curveballs that hit hard — looking at you, Since You’ve Been Gone and No Hands.

The best part? We built a killer “do not play” list too — something that doesn’t always get as much attention as it should. Knowing what not to play made everything that did hit even harder. It was just banger after banger — from Stevie Wonder and ABBA to Blink-182, Chappell Roan, Kelly Clarkson, and Natasha Bedingfield. At one point I looked up and the floor was so packed I honestly wasn’t sure how people were still finding room to dance.

Alex and Eric are off to St. Lucia now (jealous), hopefully recovering from the best kind of dance floor hangover. I’m so grateful I got to be a part of this one. There’s nothing better than watching two people celebrate the way they want to — surrounded by the people who know them best, dancing their faces off to a playlist that only they could’ve put together.
