Emily and Matt (Alpine Room, SNPJ DJ)

With all the things to coordinate for the wedding day, will you remember to have fun?  It’s so easy to get caught up in the stress, but it’s important to take time and relax, be goofy and just embrace the good times.  At the reception of Emily Oswald and Matthew Milbert, there was plenty of fun to be had.  This happy and relaxed couple was sure to enjoy every moment of their celebration at the Apline Room in the SNPJ.

Their guests had a great laugh when they saw this unique fishing themed groom’s cake.

Emily and Matt had a good time selecting music for their big day as well.  They came up with a fun 90’s oriented dinner playlist which set a great upbeat tone for the evening.

Amongst all this fun, of course, there were sweet moments as well…

With the formal festivities out of the way, all of their guests were able to join in the celebration.  What an awesome party!

As the last song began to play, Emily and Matt were smiling, laughing, and surrounded by their closest friends and family members.  All the planning they had done allowed them to relax and truly enjoy every moment of their big day.  Their next stop was the special after-party bonfire, then in the morning, the newlyweds were off to enjoy their tropical honeymoon.

Kate and Dan (Ferrante’s Lakeview Wedding DJ)

One thing that can be a bit scary on your big day is allowing friends and family to add some unexpected surprises to help make things even more special.  While I’m always careful to check with the bride and groom before I allow anything too crazy to happen, sometimes these moments can create the memories that you’ll always cherish.  The reception of Kate Kennan and Dan Rizzo at Ferrant’e Lakeside in Greensburg, PA included a lot of fantastic events and more than a few surprises.

Kate and Dan planned a day that was fun for everyone, and never had a dull moment.  Their families pitched in with some great surprises which included fireworks, a video slideshow, and one of Dan’s talented relatives singing a song!

I love that Kate and Dan used the playlists here on my website to plan the music for their celebration.  They were able to figure out what aspects could be joined together to create their own list that really suited their style.

The newlyweds held their first dance and bouquet and garter toss immediately after dinner so the celebration could get started.

Later in the evening, the guests surrounded Kate for a traditional dollar dance.  It was awesome!

I met Kate and Dan two years ago at the reception of Kala and Matthew Lenart. It was so much fun seeing them tearing up the dance floor all night!

I was completely humbled to see how excited Kate and Dan were to have me as part of their amazing celebration.  These two adorable newlyweds were able to create a wedding that that was as fun and creative as they are.  As the night came to an end, the room was still filled with guests who weren’t ready to leave.  Clearly, Kate, Dan and their families, had given everyone a night that no one would soon forget.

Jeramie and Nathanael (DiSalvo’s Station DJ)

The thing I love most about being a wedding DJ is how every reception is different.  Unlike DJ’ing at Christmas parties or class reunions, the music for a receptions is unique every time.  The couples I work with choose how much they wish to customize the music for their celebration.  I love when clients take the time to incorporate their musical tastes into the reception in order to set a tone that truly reflects their personalities.  Jeramie Byers and Nathanael Dean helped me create a playlist like no other for their big day at DiSalvo’s Station in Latrobe, PA.

This converted train station provided the perfect backdrop for the guests to visit, eat, and dance.

Since Jeramie and Nathan are big music fans, they were so much fun for me to work with.  Their musical selections throughout the evening helped make this event like no other.  The music was a great mix of indie rock, dance and some traditional favorites.

The excellent staff at DiSalvo’s worked hard to get the guests their meals and then clear the dancing area so the newlyweds could have their first dance.

One of my favorite moments of the night was watching the guests circle the dance floor for a very traditional dollar dance.

Afterwards the dancing kicked into high gear!

By the end of the evening, I had the chance to play music for all the the newlyweds’ friends and family.  They were able to expose their guests (and even me) to some new artists while still making sure that everyone had the perfect evening.  Jeramie and Nathan had worked hard, and succeeded, to make the evening like no other.  Their next great adventure now starts with their honeymoon in Hong Kong.

Mother and Son Dance Song Ideas

I’m a huge fan of Spotify.  This year I have been testing various ways to incorporate this amazing online music resource in the wedding planning process.  I’ve worked to create a great variety of playlists to help people choose songs to use during the big events at the reception.  (It’s always easy to hear the songs, instead of just reading suggestions on a list) Here’s a look at 20 great ideas for the Mother and Son dance.

Georgene & Paul (Sieb’s Banquet Wedding DJ)

I believe most people would like to feel they could remain flexible about the details of their wedding day.  Some folks can get caught up in making their day so perfect they forget to enjoy the time with their friends and family.  Everyone could learn so much about this from Georgene Gillespie and Paul Michalka, who held their reception at Sieb’s Banquet Facility outside of Pittsburgh, PA.

Georgene and Paul found some adorable ways to give their guests a little fun during the reception including a classic typewriter and some wedding Mad Libs!  What fantastic ideas!

The newlyweds had a great time picking out a wide variety of awesome music for the reception.  They also gave me complete freedom to figure out the best way to work with their selections to keep the evening moving along perfectly.

I was anxious to see Georgene and Paul’s first dance, which was choreographed to Paul McCartney’s “Silly Love Songs”.  They did such a fantastic job!

When dinner was finished the guests crowded the floor with Terrible Towels to get the celebration started!

Throughout the time I worked with these two amazing people, they never lost site of how much they wanted to plan a day that would be fun and memorable for all of the guests.  As everyone crowded the dance floor cheering for the last song, it was clear they had gotten everything they had wanted.  The newlyweds are now off for their next adventure as they honeymoon in Ireland.

This past New Year’s I had the privilege of playing at an amazing wedding at the Sheraton, Station Square.  At the reception, I had the best time working with an awesomely talented photographer, Meaghan Elliott.  Meaghan recently moved to Pittsburgh and has quickly started to embrace life in the ‘burgh.  Her great work, professionalism, and outgoing personality should quickly make her one of the area’s most sought after photographers.

When she contacted me about providing some answers to some very interesting DJ questions for her blog, I was happy to oblige.  She even included some photos of me loving what I do.

Check out the entire interview on Meaghan’s  blog.

Be sure to see all of Meaghan’s fantastic work on her website.
