Jenna and Christopher (Summit Inn Reception)

One of my favorite parts of being a wedding DJ is seeing how the couple envisions their special day, so that I can help make sure it’s a big success.  I had the pleasure of really getting to know Jenna Parcher and Christopher Shuknecht to help plan their wedding reception at The Summit Inn in Farmington, PA.

Jenna, Chris, and I had a great time talking about everything, including their relationship, their families, and their priorities for the big day.  These two have such an amazing chemistry that makes them fun to be around.  I couldn’t help but laugh when I saw that their cake topper was a replica of themselves.  I loved how they even had it made to match Jenna’s gown and Chris’s tux!

True to their fun loving nature, Chris had to hold off Jenna when it was time to cut the cake.

Jenna and Chris provided me with some guidance as far as song selection, but their main priority was making sure their guests would stay and dance throughout the evening.  Their guests made tons of requests and I was able to include music from every genre imaginable.

After everyone had the time to eat and visit, the couple had their first dance.  It was great to see them a have a tender moment all to themselves.

Afterwards it was time to celebrate!

Chris’s Aunt helped organize a Polish Wedding tradition called the Oczepiny.  All the guests gathered around to sing to the newlyweds.

While I always enjoying meeting with couples to discuss their wedding, I will never forget the time I spent with these two.  After the first 10 minutes it was clear how much they are meant for each other.  I also wasn’t too surprised to discover that their guests were as fun and wild as they are.  The newlyweds are now heading off to Mexico for a honeymoon that is sure to be epic.

Lindsay and Adam (Harmar House Reception)

Everyone knows that your wedding day is the one day when you’re allowed to do everything your way.  I find that the people who have the best receptions are those who are willing to remember that their guests are the most important part of the celebration.  This weekend I was able to DJ for Lindsay English and Adam Schwab’s wedding at the Harmar House in Pittsburgh, PA.  These two were sure to include their friends and family in the special day, which made it one that everyone was able to enjoy.

It was clear from the beginning how important their guests were to Lindsay and Adam.  They spent time visiting with everyone, and allowed for many different styles of music so that all their guests would want to get up and enjoy the celebration.  After dinner they had a few special dances which were emotional and beautiful.

With lots of time to enjoy themselves, we were able to cover music from all genres including country, rock, swing, 80’s, and modern music.  It was awesome.

The large dance floor at the Harmar House gave lots of room for everyone to join in the party.

It’s great for me as a DJ to get to get to work with such honest and giving people.  Because Lindsay and Adam  were sure to put their focus on their friends and family, their day was one that was special to everyone.

MobileBeat Magazine Awards The Best DJ Websites

mobilebeat-cover

I’m thrilled, and extremely pleased that the editors of Mobile Beat Magazine have chosen my website as the best DJ blog in the country for 2011.  It’s such a thrill to be acknowledged for doing something that you just love doing.

Here’s what they had to say:

“Using a unique approach, the homepage for this company is a blog. There is content on the rest of the website, but the home page is almost entirely made up of a blog. Like most DJ blogs, it has pictures from recent events, along with some other little tidbits of information. What makes this stand out is a great overall design of the website, amazing pictures, and a short wrap-up at the end of each wedding blog. Not only does content like this really draw a prospective client in, but it also does wonders for helping your website in the search engines (if done right, which this one is).”

I love working on my website since it showcases how special and unique every wedding can be.  Even more than that I love being able to look back on some of the most amazing and fun times I’ve had been lucky enough in which to play a part.  My thanks to Mobile Beat for noticing!

Amy and Josh (Alpine Room DJ)

There are some things you just can’t control on your wedding day.  Probably the biggest is the weather.   In Western PA, you never know if you’re going to get a heat wave or a downpour.  All you can do is accept what comes and pray for the best.  The weather didn’t seem like it was on our side while I was the DJ for Amy Stausbaugh and Josh Friday at their wedding ceremony and reception at the Alpine Room in Enon Valley, PA.

The rain was extremlely heavy while everyone was getting ready for the ceremony, but Amy’s attitude was upbeat and positive.  She told me “they say a little rain is good luck, so it looks like we’re having TONS of luck today!”  About an hour before the ceremony began, the clouds parted and even a little sun shown down.  Perfect for Amy’s entrance on horse drawn carriage!

Amy made it clear that they wanted their night to be fun and full of all types of music.  Throughout the day we covered everything from classical, country, rock, oldies, pop, and dance.

Their reception was prepared to be sure everyone could relax and have a great time.  A huge cookie table and photo booth awaited their guests as they arrived for cocktail hour.  After the grand entrance the newlyweds had a very touching and sweet first dance.

After dinner Amy danced with her father.  I just love this picture.

Finally it was time to open up the dance floor and celebrate!

I love that Amy and Josh didn’t let the potentially bad weather worry them, and instead made sure that their day would be fantastic no matter what.  They are now off to a well earned honeymoon in Hawaii where I’m sure they’ll find many ways to enjoy paradise, regardless of the forecast..

Ann and Joe (Pittsburgh Zoo DJ)

Nobody would want their wedding ever to be considered ‘normal’ or ‘typical’, yet it’s so easy to stick with standard wedding traditions, even if those traditions don’t really feel natural to the bride and groom.  I always encourage my clients to make new traditions and forget the ones that don’t work for them.  Ann Donovan and Joe Carretta igrnored almost every standard wedding tradition and created something truly unique for their reception at the Pittsburgh Zoo.

The tent area at the Pittsburgh Zoo is a wonderful, large space for a reception.  The weather was perfect so guests could enjoy themselves both inside and out on a beautiful August day.

Instead of a cake, Joe and Ann had a table filled with amazing cupcakes!

The music for the reception was a fun mix of every genre.  Cocktail hour and dinner was filled with great singer/songwriter songs from the likes of Jack Johnson.  When dancing began, the guests crowded the floor to everything from Motown to disco to modern hits.

One of the things I loved about Joe & Ann’s reception was how everything was set up to be very family friendly while still including ways for the adults to party.

Joe and Ann now share their anniversary with the birthday of their sweet daughter Stella.  At the end of the night she was still going stronger than most of the guests. Look at those beautiful eyes!

It was great to work with Ann, Joe & Stella to make a day that suited their new family perfectly.  They created an amazingly unique day for their friends and family that was truly special for everyone.

Vanessa and Mark (Candlelight Room DJ)

People will tell you that your wedding day will go by too quickly.  You plan so many details of the big day just to watch it fly by and before you know it, the last song is about to play.  Every once in a while, I’m lucky enough to DJ a wedding that has plenty of time for everything a bride & groom could wish for.  Vanessa Kreuer and Mark McPherson planned for a day that would allow them time to enjoy every moment of their reception at the Candlelight Room in Washington, PA.

Vanessa and Mark had a beautiful purple color scheme that really looked great in the Candelight Room.

The entire day was very relaxed and evenly paced.  With the ceremony scheduled for 1PM there was plenty of time for everything since the reception didn’t end until 11 o’clock.  This meant plenty of time for socializing, eating, and then lots and lots of dancing.  The playlist included tons of great music for everyone!

Around 9:30 I found Mark and Vanessa while they were staring intently at Mark’s watch.  They couldn’t believe they had been dancing for so long, and the celebration was far from over.  It was great fun for me as a DJ to be able to play many requests and really watch everyone have an amazing time.  Mark and Vanessa planned the perfect day that they and their guests we able to relax and enjoy every moment.
