Sherri and Michael (Pittsburgh Marriott North)

If you look over the various wedding playlists I post online, you’ll notice that the dancing portion of the evening makes up only 1/3 of the songs played at each reception. Cocktail hour and dinner is valuable time where you can include fantastic music which may not be appropriate for later in the night. Sherri and Michael made use of the entire evening and created the perfect soundtrack for their big day at the Pittsburgh Marriott North.

It was great fun watching the newlyweds get excited during dinner when they heard their favorite tunes. Sherri told me of many songs that she had always dreamed of including on her wedding day. As she had her first dance to Etta James “At Last” it was clear how music helped make many of her dreams come true.

Sherri and Michael made fantastic music choices and suggestions which were a big hit with their friends and family. The entire evening flowed perfectly and ended with many guests dragging the newlyweds off to the after party. The new Harpers now get to reflect on their amazing day before heading off to their romantic Hawaiian honeymoon.

Accolades (Shannon & Ron)

DJ Eric Schiemer is the BEST! He really listened to what we wanted instead of making us buy a package that didn’t suit our needs. His experience and service rivals the higher-priced DJ’s in the Pittsburgh area and guess what… he’s better… so you’re getting a bargain! He has any type of music you could possibly want: Top 40, 80’s, oldies, you name it. Anything we requested, he found a way to make it happen. Our whole theme was Old Hollywood so he gave us songs used in movies for our cocktail and dinner hours and movie soundtrack themes for our reception entrance songs. Plus, my husband and I are big fans of Aerosmith and Metallica… not easy songs to dance to… but Eric whipped up a mashup of our two favorite bands that everyone could jam along to. One of the things we liked best was the planning form on his website, which made setting up our entire day a piece of cake. This was especially important since we live in Georgia and couldn’t simply pop by to see him any time changes needed to be made. He’s very responsive via phone and e-mail, as well, which makes planning the event a breeze.

Kelly and Nate (Longue Vue Club)

I love to see how people can use songs to make the biggest day of their lives like no other. Kelly and Nate put great effort into choosing the soundtrack for their special day at the Long Vue Club in Penn Hills, PA.

The outdoor space at the Longue Vue Club was the perfect venue for both their ceremony and cocktail hour on a perfect fall day. The newlyweds had chosen almost all of the great music for their ceremony, cocktail hour, and dinner in order to share more of their style with friends and family. To further enhance the mood, I was able to provide uplighting in the ballroom for dinner and dancing.

When it was time to get the party started, everyone let loose on the dance floor to a wide variety of new and classic music. Kelly and Nate gave me great song choices including tunes for a 90’s dance medley which everybody loved…it was another completely original touch. With their perfect wedding day behind them, the newlyweds are headed off for a romantic honeymoon in San Francisco and Maui.

Shannon and Jason (Four Points Sheraton)

Since last week’s blog covered the importance of a great entrance for your reception, it seems fitting this week to discuss the perfect ending. Most couples I meet with would envy the amazing finish that Shannon and Jason had for their big day held at the Four Points Sheraton in Cranberry, PA.

Shannon and Jason scheduled a special after-party for after their reception, so they were able to call an end to the dancing portion of their evening with the majority of their guests still in attendance. The result was a huge circle of friends and family surrounding them as they enjoyed one last dance together.

The entire reception ran smoothly and allowed plenty of time for everyone to get a little crazy. It was great to see so many of the newlyweds’ friends and family heading off to celebrate even more. Shannon and Jason are off to Riviera Maya for what I’m sure will be a perfectly timed honeymoon.

Jennifer and Jeremy (Southpointe Golf Club)

The music and style you choose for your grand entrance into the reception can help set the tone for the entire evening. Soft and sophisticated, crazy and wild, or just fun and loud music will let your guests know exactly what your plans for the celebration will be. Jennifer and Jeremy took the time to create their own special mix for their epic entrance into the ballroom at the Southpointe Golf Club, and it was the perfect way to start their perfect party.

In addition to their custom entrance, the newlyweds included lots of great touches at the reception including a candy buffet, photo booth, and even had the cake prepared in advanced for their guests to take home to enjoy.

Jennifer and Jeremy did a spectacular job planning their big day, leaving lots of time for visiting and dancing. After a wonderful celebration, the couple was able to enjoy one last song with their closest friends and family before heading off to Aruba to begin a new chapter in their lives together.
